Bonnyrigg White Eagles captain Chris Tadrosse is hoping to give himself a late birthday present by lifting the IGA National Premier Leagues Men’s 1 title on Sunday.
Tadrosse celebrated his 28th birthday on Tuesday and cannot think of a better way to top his week off.
He is now hoping he can lead his club to the championship and hold aloft the trophy at Penrith Stadium on Sunday evening.
“It’s a good achievement for the club to reach the grand final two years in a row and not only that but we have been there in three of the last four,’’ he said.
“In the last year we talked a lot about what happened last year and we had to.
“We were so dominant throughout the season and really missed out at the last hurdle.
“Hopefully this year we will be different and I can finally hold the trophy up.’’
Much of Bonnyrigg’s success has led to their attack receiving the plaudits.
But Tadrosse says the defensive line will be just as important come Grand Final day.
“Over the last two years I think the defence has played its part in getting us to this success,’’ he said.
“We have had changes every now and then in the back line but everyone that has stepped in has done well.
“Again for the grand final we will be missing Nikola Zonjic (suspended) which is unfortunate but I am sure whoever steps in will do the job.’’
The former North Queensland Fury player has been a revelation for the White Eagles since joining the club in 2010.
But it is team success that Tadrosse looks for after having played in the A-League and overseas.
“Obviously we have had very good squads making it to the grand final two years in a row,’’ he said.
“But much of that has to be put down to Brian Brown and Cliff Pointer.
“They both have a knack of getting the right players at the right time for the club.’’
Tadrosse also revealed the grand final will be played much closer to home than he ever thought.
The left back lives in Bilpin in the upper Blue Mountains and is relishing the chance to play at the most local ground to him.
“I grew up in Bilpin and really the only time I haven’t been here was when I was overseas or playing gin the A-League,’’ he said.
“It will probably still take me 45 minutes to get to the ground but it is a bit of a home match for me.
“I am looking forward to it either way. I will have quite a few people there for the match including my three young boys.
“I’m hoping two of them walk out on the field with me which will be a very special moment.’’
