Stallions record second consecutive victory

The Marconi Stallions defeating Macarthur Rams 1-0 at Campbelltown Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Marconi came out in the early stages with some good quality possession ? striker Tolgay Ozbey and Chris Nunes worked well together in pressuring the Rams defence.
However, despite the early possession, Macarthur?s A-League import Kostas Barbarouses was first to pounce using his fine skills in the penalty-area to avoid the challenges of the Marconi defenders, though his attempted shot let him down as the chance amounted to nothing.
In the 5? minute Tolgay Ozbey was again involved for the away side with a dominant strike just sailing over the cross-bar.
In the 6? minute Macarthur?s in-form defender Michael Brown was looking to get involved in the side?s movement, and it proved effective with his through ball finding Macarthur forward Shannon Hankin down the right side. Hankin struck a shot goal-wards, though the effort was cleverly deflected by Marconi defender Luke Casserly.
Macarthur looked dangerous in attack with Michael Brown again providing a perfect through ball – this time to Barbarouses  – who found himself in a one-on-one situation, however Marconi goalkeeper James Chronopoulos came out and made a courageous save to deny the Rams their first goal of the season at home.
Macarthur?s Hugo Coronel and Craig Cooley were also effective ? as-well-as Daniel McCann providing some good passes and holding quality possession; both sides looked dangerous in attack and provided a display of attractive football in the first-half.
Marconi?s Nahuel Arrarte and Tallan Martin linked-up well with Ozbey, and it nearly led to the first goal of the match with Martin latching onto a shot just outside the 18-yard box ? the effort though sailed over the cross-bar.
In the 34? minute the Macarthur defence was nearly made to pay for a lapse in concentration. Ozbey beat his marker to provide a dashing cross into the penalty-area, however, again, the Rams managed to clear ? this time Matt Toogood did the tidying up.
The best chance of the first-half fell to the Stallions Vuko Tomasevic after he latched onto a pass from Tolgay Ozbey to find himself in a one-on-one position. Tomasevic slotted the ball past Macarthur goalkeeper Roy Bell, though his effort hit the inside of the post and stayed in play. 
The second-half saw the Stallions continue to hold a monopoly on the better chances – Tolgay Ozbey again found himself in a one-on-one position with Roy Bell in the 56? minute. Despite a decent effort by the striker, the Macarthur shot-stopper made a spectacular save to keep the scores level. 
Nahuel Arrarte was again in the thick of it in the 62? minute when he placed a splendid through ball to Ozbey. Despite another promising scoring position, Ozbey?s fierce drive finished way wide of goal.
The match looked to be destined for a 0-0 draw until the 87? minute when Vuko Tomasevic latched on to a free-kick – his first attempted header was saved by Roy Bell, however he had a second effort that was neatly placed into the goal to give his side the crucial three points.
Marconi coach David Barrett was pleased with the result, but believed that his team should have converted more of the chances created:
?I thought we played some consistent football today, we passed the ball extremely well under pressure though we need to take more care and try to convert more of our chances. Despite the misses we still grabbed the crucial goal that gave us the three points on the day.
?This team has been unlucky in the past five weeks we have had three draws, which we thought we should have converted into wins, but in saying that the boys have worked hard and have courageously now taken two consecutive wins setting our team a good platform for the second part of the season?.
