Football NSW a finalist for eight NSW Sports Federation Annual Sports Awards

The NSW Sports Federation is the peak body of all sports in NSW.
The eight categories in which Football NSW is a finalist are as follows:

  • NSW Organisation of the Year ? (Football NSW)
  • NSW Administrator of the Year ? (Michael Quarmby)
  • NSW Sports Media Award ? (Football Stars of Tomorrow)
  • NSW Young Official of the Year ? (Elizabeth Shorter)
  • Distinguished Long Service Award ? (Bill McIIveen)
  • NSW Team Athlete with a Disability Award ? (Chris Pyne)
  • NSW Team with a Disability Award ? (NSW CP Football Team)
  • NSW Young Athlete of the Year ? (Ellyse Perry)

Being a finalist in eight categories is an unprecedented event for Football NSW. This surpasses 2007 when Football NSW was selected as a finalist in six categories.
The organisation itself gained worthy selection for NSW Organisation of the Year. The other finalists for NSW Organisation of the Year are Netball NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW and Wheelchair Sports NSW.
Football NSW CEO Michael Quarmby has again been selected as a finalist for the NSW Administrator of the Year. This is the second occasion in three years when Michael has been a finalist.
Michael Quarmby won the award in 2006 and with Football NSW?s vision in expanding to new surroundings with the Riverstone complex as well as announcing the provision of $250,000 worth of credit vouchers to Associations and State League clubs across the state amongst other achievements; a second award could be in store for Football NSW? CEO.
Turning the attention to the media, Football NSW?s highly successful television series ?Football Stars of Tomorrow? which is telecast on both FoxSports and SBS has also gained a worthy mention, in the running for its? third successive year in the NSW Sports Media category.
Young female referee Elizabeth Shorter was selected as a finalist for NSW Young Official of the Year after her outstanding efforts in 2008. Elizabeth officiated in the Women?s National Youth Championships and was also selected as a contracted match official in the Westfield Women?s League.
One of Football NSW?s most respected officials Bill McIIveen has been acknowledged for his contribution to sport and is as a finalist in the Distinguished Long Service Award category.
McIIveen has been involved in the game for over 40 years and has worked as a Match commissioner as well as being involved in Football NSW?s Disciplinary and Purposes Tribunals.
Central Coast Mariners? W-League star Ellyse Perry was selected as a finalist in the NSW Young Athlete of the Year award in conjunction with Cricket NSW.
The highly successful NSW Cerebral Palsy Football Team was recognised for its efforts and is a finalist for the NSW Team with a Disability Award while Chris Pyne was selected as a finalist for the NSW Team Athlete with a Disability Award.
Being selected as finalists in eight categories by the peak body representing all of sport in NSW is an acknowledgement of the hard work of the Football NSW family.
