Central Coast Lightning Girls Ready to Strike in 2009

untitled_02

For the first time Alex will be coaching a girls? team; the Central Coast Lightning Under 12 Girls Super Youth League side to be exact!

Alex was approached by Central Coast officials to turn his hand to the female side of the game late last season. He saw it as a good change, as well as something of a challenge.
After a disappointing 2008 season Central Coast find themselves back into the Arrive Alive Women?s Super League for 2009. Central Coast Lightning see this as nothing but a temporary set back and are keen to win their way back to the WPL by 2010. The progress of the Under 12 Girls side since they came together last October is testament to the Lightning?s determination.
The girls have been training three times a week since October with a three week break for Christmas. Their sessions have been 90 to 100 minutes in duration with a nutricius breakfast being supplied at the weekend sessions.
Alex has had the squad working on a lot of co-ordination/body mechanics style drills. Plenty of speed ladders, agility rings and the like. Alex feels that the effects have been very positive the benefits seeming to be obvious as the girls have commenced more work with their ball skills. The girls also spent a day at Treetops Adventure Park to help enhance that important team spirit and bonding.
The team  has lots of new faces in 2009 with a number of the 2008 squad having moved up to the Under 14?s/ Many of these new players have been identified through development programmes and trials that Central Coast are now running under the title ?Precision Football?. All the girls/women?s teams are working hard with great support from the coaches of Central Coast?s High Performance Unit.
The Central Coast Lightning Under 12 Girls have their first trial game of the season against Northern Tigers at Pluim Park on the 15th February. Their first match of the season in this year?s Girls Super League competition is against Southern NSW FC on the 29th March.
The 2009 season holds plenty of promise for Central Coast Lightning with their Under 12 Girls striving hard to lead the way.
