The Mardi Gras Parade is an important event in the calendar and is a much loved annual festival which captivates audiences world-wide. The parade receives extensive live coverage on television networks and on radio stations and attracts an abundance of spectators who gather around Sydney’s CBD to join the celebration and protest.
This weekend, the ‘Blues’ will join several notable celebrities, such as, Kylie Minogue, Sam Sparro and Sneaky Sound System at the Mardi Gras celebration and will endorse the mission statement put forth by the celebration’s organisers which is to both embrace and celebrate diversity and inspire the world to demonstrate a culture of acceptance.
Sydney Olympic FC defender, Brett Studman will be one of several Sydney Olympic FC representatives who will join the Sydney Rangers FC float and address the issue of homophobia in football.
“I have a number of friends who belong to the Gay and Lesbian community and I am very happy and excited to be involved.
“Full credit also goes to the club for sharing their support. It is fantastic for a big club like Olympic to support the gay and lesbian community and promote the need for equality”, Studman said.
“It is a unique experience as the Sydney Mardi Gras is one of the biggest festivals which celebrates sexuality and equality”, he added.
Sydney Olympic FC is happy to join the Mardi Gras celebration and endeavours to encourage the entire football community to promote equality and unity, and rid the sport of homophobia.
