Round 10 Review – League One Women’s

Round 10 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition saw Hills United FC emerge as the lone unbeaten team after the weekend. There were six games to enjoy in Female Football Week which was highlighted by the Match of the Round between Marconi Stallions FC and Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC.

Let’s get onto the review.

Match of the Round: Marconi Stallions vs Mt Druitt Town Rangers

Mt Druitt Town Rangers won 3-1 against Marconi Stallions at Marconi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Stallions battled hard in the whole game against one of the top teams in the League One Women’s competition. Tania Baban brought Marconi Stallions to their feet with her header to equalize in the 73rd minute before they conceded twice.

For Mt Druitt Town Rangers, it is three wins on the bounce in tough conditions this afternoon. Holly Dalrymple made it 1-0 right on half-time then Leena Khamis’ header snatched back the lead in the 78th minute and it was rounded off substitute Sienna Cooper-Durant’s strike for 3-1 late on.

Both Marconi Stallions and Mt Druitt Town Rangers strode on a gray Marconi Stadium to celebrate Female Football Week and try to pick up three points.

The first shot of the game came from the hosts. Nicole Carmichael found some space before sending a shot straight at Mt Druitt keeper Renee Krstanovska.

The Town Rangers found their rhythm quickly. They were finding pockets of space behind the Stallions defence and kept keeper Isabella Sollecito busy.

Rosie Galea was energetic and delivered a pass in stride for Leena Khamis who swept it over the bar.

The two star signings combined again in the 32nd minute. Galea with a precise pass inside the box but Khamis could only find the side netting.

The visitors continue to pile up chances. Galea had a free-kick saved well by Sollecito as they pushed for the opener.

Marconi Stallions went close to the opener late in the first half. Ella Sievwright strode forward inside the box but Krstanovska produced a big save.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC made it 1-0 in the 45th minute. Caitlin Campbell threaded a pass for Holly Dalrymple who found the back of the net.

The visitors kept their foot on the pedal right after the break. They tested Sollecito with a pair of shots early in the second half.

Galea had another free-kick flash into the box but was covered then Dalrymple had a low shot denied from close range.

Stallions substitute Tania Baban brought energy to the home side and provided a pass for Julia Figueria to shoot on goal.

Campbell went close to adding a second for Mt Druitt. She found some room and unfurled a shot which Sollecito claimed.

Substitute Rita Boateng went the closest to the second goal for the visitors. She went past the defence and Stallions keeper but rolled her effort onto the post.

Stallions made use of the lifeline and made it 1-1 in the 74th minute. The corner was swung in well and found the head of Baban to flick it home and energise the home crowd.

The Town Rangers responded quickly to retake the lead. Galea piloted the free-kick onto the head of Khamis who nodded home for 2-1 in the 78th minute.

There was a flurry of chances Marconi Stallions after the goal. Substitute Michelle Dal Bon sent a free-kick wide then Figueira shot straight.

Dalrymple could have sealed the game for Mt Druitt but the attacker wrapped her effort against the post and away.

The task was made harder for Marconi Stallions when Ashley Limnios was sent off for a second yellow card in the 93rd minute.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers iced the game in the 95th minute for 3-1. Boateng flew down the wing before she cut it back for substitute Sienna Cooper-Durant to tap home.

Post match, Marconi Stallions reflected on the contest and the improvement from his side in recent weeks:

“The girls battled until the end and it was a game which I think should’ve ended in a draw. The last four games we have got results and we’ve played okay football. The results haven’t shown that but hopefully it will turn soon.” said Beauchamp.

For Mt Druitt Town Rangers assistant coach Matthew Wearne, spoke about the win and his side’s performance:

“It was a very good game between two good teams that tried to play some football. We had plenty of opportunities and the girls moved the ball well. The girls showed good character to fight back after conceding and get three points.” said Wearne.

St George FC 6 defeated Sutherland Strikers FC 0

St George FC won 6-0 against Sutherland Strikers in their return to Barton Park on Saturday afternoon.

It was the perfect opening to Barton Park for St George FC who got back in the winner’s circle in this game. Jordan Baker made it 1-0 for the Saints in the 10th minute before Abbey-Rose Cryer added the second then Baker made it a brace for 3-0 at the break.

The Saints kept marching on in the second half scoring another three goals to hit the Strikers for six in the game. Genevieve Russo scored the fourth in the 63rd minute then Baker completed the hat-trick for 5-0 and Kyla Vanderlaan put the icing on the cake for 6-0 in the 80th minute.

SD Raiders FC 0 defeated by Hills United FC 2

Hills United FC won 2-0 against SD Raiders FC in their game at Fairfield Showgrounds on Sunday afternoon.

That result leaves Hills United FC as the last undefeated team in the League One Women’s competition after 10 rounds. They were pushed hard by the SD Raiders FC side as the teams battled to 0-0 at half-time.

Kaylie Shannon gave Hills United FC an instant impact with her goal in the 47th minute to make it 1-0 in the battle of the undefeated. Her strike partner Isabella Sciberras made it 2-0 in the 74th minute to keep the visitors at the top of the table.

Nepean FC 0 defeated by South Coast Flame FC 2

South Coast Flame FC were 2-0 winners against Nepean FC in their game at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Flame continue to burn brightly in the last month with their fourth straight win against a dogged Nepean FC side. Lisa Prior made it back-to-back games with a goal when she made it 1-0 in the 36th minute and helped the visitors to a half-time lead.

South Coast Flame FC were kept at bay for much of the second half but they added a second goal late in the contest. Substitute Jessica Cruickshank found the back of the net in the 83rd minute for 2-0 and keep their charge for the top four going.

Camden Tigers FC 6 defeated Inter Lions FC 0

Camden Tigers won 6-0 against Inter Lions FC in their game at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers made it two games unbeaten with a comfortable win on their home ground in wet conditions. Ashleigh Long made it 1-0 in the 11th minute then Tia Berg added the second in the 19th minute before Lisa Fressard scored to make it 3-0 in the 41st minute in a solid first half performance.

The home side kept pushing forward in the second half in a performance which will please coach Alex Prophet. Fressard scored her second for 4-0 in the 62nd minute then Berg completed her hat-trick with goals in the 77th and 82nd minute to round off the win.

Blacktown City FC 1 defeated by Bankstown City Lions FC 3

Bankstown City Lions FC won 3-1 against Blacktown City FC at Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions got back in the winner’s circle after a recent run of poor results with an important three points. Ena Harada gave them the perfect start with her first goal as a Lion in the 1st minute as the visitors took a 1-0 lead into the sheds.

Bankstown City Lions FC made it 2-0 in the 66th minute through goal machine Aya Seino then Maya Miller added the third in the 77th minute. Blacktown City FC pulled one back late through Sophie Roberts for 3-1 in the 85th minute.
