United 58 FC blast hapless Wolves

Sydney United 58 claimed their second victory of the National Premier League NSW Men’s 1 competition demolishing South Coast Wolves 5-1 at Sydney United Sports Centre.

The Wolves gave starts to two new recruits one in Japanese defender and former Blacktown Spartans player Hiroaki Kawaski and Samuel Jacobs who returned to the Wolves after spending some time playing abroad.

In an entertaining fixture Sydney United 58s attacking prowess pounced on a number of Wolves errors with a double from young striker Mark Cindric combined with goals to Ante Tomic and Stjepan Paric sealing the win.

South Coast started the match on the front foot creating the first chance in the 3′ minute when Chris Nathaniel rose well to meet a Matthew Bailey free kick with the former divertinghis header wide.

Sydney United 58 got into their passing game and in the 7′ minute Robbie Mileski found space on the left with Jacob Timpano getting back to block an impending cross.

The home side hit the lead three minutes later as Mitchell Speer won the ball in the middle of the park before finding Luka Glavas out wide whose crossed was perfectly tapped in by Mark Cindric.

The fans had barely re-taken their seats as United doubled their lead in the 13′ minute through Ante Tomic. Matthew Bilic attacked well down the left touch line crossing to find a rising Tomic who headed the ball into the back of the net.

The Wolves were not resting on their laurels and struck back in the 15′ minute. As Sydney United failed to clear a corner Samuel Jacob popped up to tap the ball into an empty net making it 2-1.

The away side were hungry to equalise quickly and in the 22′ minute Chris Price’s curling free kick just missed the left hand upright.

Sydney United 58 coach Mark Rudan was forced to make a change a minute later when goal scorer Ante Tomic was forced from the field with an ankle injury being replaced by Stepjan Paric.

The substitute made an immediate impact in the 34′ minute getting on the end of a fantastic passing movement by United to make it 3-1.

United almost put the nail in the coffin of the Wolves in the 40′ minute when Robbie Mileski went on a mazy run beating three defenders, before finding an advancing Nathan Sherlock in the box whose shot was well saved by a diving Daniel Collison.

South Coast came out from the break in great fashion, passing the ball around with ease ending in Peter Simonoski shooting only to be denied by Diego Barcena.

United quickly countered up the other end of the park as Luka Glavas found Paric on the edge of the box with the midfielder taking a touch before his shot hit the side netting in the 48′ minute.

Glavas was in the thick of it again in the 53′ minute, dispossessing Hiroaki Kawasaki before passing to Cindric whose shot was blocked before his second attempt rolled wide.

Jacobs had a great chance to double his tally in the 55′ minute when his attempted chip from 30 yards out was tapped over the bar by a back pedalling Barcena.

Simonoski was next to try test Barcena as he tried shooting through a packed United box only to see Sherlock clear.

Paric continued to trouble the Wolves defence in the 65′ minute as a Glavas flick on saw the former through on goal, only for the midfielder to take the ball too wide with his shot easily saved by Collison.

Wolves substitute Ricky Zucco went for the spectacular in the 73′ minute, spotting Barcena off his line again before shooting from 40 yards to see the ball hit the top of the net.

The missed chance came back to haunt South Coast two minutes later as Cindric chipped Collison making it 4-1.

United ended the rout with three minutes remaining when an advancing Sherlock cut the ball back for Anthony Tomelic to see his shot bounce off the post into the net.

Following the match Sydney United 58 coach Mark Rudan was ecstatic with the result.

“The result is good because we haven’t picked up the results early on,” he said.

“The performance was really good. What probably epitomises the way we play and what we’re about was our third goal where I think there was about 20 to 25 passes moving the ball from one side to the other really quickly – and that’s us.

“I’m really happy with their application, even when the game was sewn up we still did the right thing and that is what I was really pleased about.

In the away dressing room South Coast Wolves coach Richard Lloyd said he was disappointed by his side’s poor showing.

“A few silly errors and Sydney United were up for it for the best part,” he said.

“I think an obvious problem is when we lose the ball our transition is too slow so we need to speed that up and have that want to get the ball back.

“I think that’s what brought us undone, when we gave that ball up.”
