Football NSW has announced the introduction of Football NSW’s first ever Referee Academy.

The Academy has been set up to assist and prepare selected referees for success at National Titles and to potentially be identified by FFA as future Hyundai A-League, Westfield W-League and National Youth League Referees to be part of the National Talent Pool.

Referees selected to join the Academy will be provided with Speed & Agility training, a Nutritionist, a Sports Behavioural Specialist, access to National and International Coaches and Hyundai A-League Referee Mentors.

Football NSW Referees Manager Kris Griffiths Jones was excited with the new initiative which came only days after statistical data showed an increase in referees for 2015 with 5,390 registered.

“I am really excited about this new and innovative program.

“Participants will get a taste of what it’s like to be a professional referee.

“On top of the traditional technical and physical coaching, the participants will receive advanced speed and agility training, nutritional education and learning psychological aspects of refereeing all working to achieving each referees individual goals.

“I believe that the next generation of Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League referees will emerge from this academy.”

Trial dates have been set for Wednesday 13th and Wednesday 20th January and Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th February.

Referees will be required to attend all four Trial Dates.

Trials for the Referee Academy are open to all 16–21 year-old male and female Referees who are registered to a Local Branch.
