Manly Warringah Association pushing its coaching boundaries

MANLY-WARRINGAH Football Association has a proud record of ensuring its coaches are up to scratch.

MWFA general manager Jeremy Toivonen said that coach education is something the association takes seriously as its player participation continues to grow.

“The MWFA has over 17000 registered players and is growing.  Therefore it is safe to say that the number of quality coaches also needs to grow.”

“The MWFA is holding free coaching courses in the lead up to the season. This will ensure coaches have the opportunity to improve themselves.”

“Those interested in attending courses are asked to look out for course details and register quickly as spaces will be limited.”

The Association has also announced that it will be fielding three new age groups for girls this season.

Junior players in the under-8s, 9s and 15s are still able to play in mixed competitions on Saturday mornings but now also have the choice of playing in girls-only teams on Sundays.

MWFA girls’ and women’s vice president Louise Walker welcomed the development.

“After speaking with parents and club representatives last year, it was obvious we needed to make this happen,’’ she said.

“Ultimately our aim is to attract more girls to the sport.
