The ‘Shoosh for Kids’ campaign will be in action across sporting fields across the Central West of NSW this Saturday with football heavily involved with venues at Dubbo, Mudgee and Waratahs at Orange.

The ‘Shoosh for Kids’ campaign promotes positive sideline behaviour and comments with the motto, "If your comment is negative, just Shoosh".

Joanne Bartlett from NSW Sport and Recreation was excited about the prospects of bringing the campaign to the football community in Western NSW.

"Bringing the ‘Shoosh for Kids’ to the Central West of NSW means that whatever sporting event families are attending on the weekend, they will get the same message, namely ‘keep your comments positive or Shoosh’.”

The campaign is seen as a positive move as Coaching and Development Manager for Western NSW Andrew Fearnley applauded the initiative especially after seeing the first campaign roll out via the Bathurst District Football Association at Proctor Park last Saturday.

"It certainly made a huge difference thanks to the promotion and information that was passed onto every participant during the lead-up to the week as parents on the sideline were pretty quiet.

“It felt like a positive experience for the young players who were able to concentrate on their performances on the field.

“Hopefully the message about sideline behaviour will be more than just something for the weekend and the motto remains with those on the sideline allowing the kids to play in a positive environment.”

The Orange District Football Association will run the ‘Shoosh for Kids’ in early August along with areas within Riverina and Southern.
