Summer Football is alive and kicking in the Sutherland Shire area as the popular Barden Ridge Sports Complex is currently hosting successful Monday and Tuesday evening competitions.

Football NSW Development Officer Lauren Moore recently paid Barden Ridge Sports Complex competitions administrator Enzo Sansone a visit and she took in the sights and sounds of what was a very busy evening of Summer Football.

“You could tell from the onset that each players enjoyed their Summer Football fix at the Barden Ridge Sports Complex.

“On this particular night, they ran Under 10 girls and mixed, Under 12 boys and girls and All age Men and Women teams starting at 5:00pm going on till 9:00pm.”

The complex has been running successful Summer Football competitions for the past two successive years having been affiliated with Football NSW with Sansone continuing to engage with the local football clubs in Menai namely the Menai Hawks, Barden Ridge and Bangor FC.

“Our competition is purely about having fun and the social aspects of the game.

“We are trying to take away the competitive side making it more fun and engaging.

“We’ve also have joined forces with our local clubs Barden Ridge and Bangor FC for the competition using this as a club engaging with the community and getting them involved.

“Our focus is about the children and making it a fun environment for them to want to come and play and gain skills.

“We like the idea of the smaller format being 5 v 5 as we want the game to flow well and be faster, therefore we have amended the playing size to 38 by 25 and this seems to be really working.

“We also want to engage the parents more by getting them involved in coaching and if interested, getting them to come on board in the winter seasons.

“We like to make sure everything runs to time and schedule so that the families and players still have time to get through their other commitments whether it be family or work.”
