Female Football Week

Female Football Week is a nationwide initiative to celebrate the immense growth of women’s football at all levels of the game and acknowledge and promote the important role women play in developing football.

The objective of Female Football Week is to drive female participation at all levels of the game.

2024 Female Football Week will be held from Friday, May 3rd to Sunday, May 12th.

Throughout the week Football NSW and our Associations/Clubs will be actively involved in the delivery of female football events including:

  • Come + Try Sessions
  • Free Skills Clinics
  • Festival of Football

It is the committee's goal to increase the number of girls playing each year in the club.

Sylvania Heights is a strong supporter of women's football. We have 16 female teams taking the field this year. As well, there are the many women who Coach or Manage a team, are Committee members or volunteer and support at games each week. We will be hosting home games for all of our female teams on Sat May 11th 2024. There will be face painting activities and to celebrate Mother's Day - all mothers & grandmothers will receive a chocolate treat.

Players will be encouraged to bring a friend to training to join them. We will be creating a festival-like atmosphere with neon lights, glow in the dark soccer tattoos and glow in the dark footballs, balloons, purple hair spray, inflatables, bubbles and music. Training sessions will be modified with a female skew (eg. games re-named to identifiable female characters to ignite girls imaginations) and music and dance will be incorporated in the warm ups. Gordon FC is also trying to seek a high profile local player to attend the session. Our sponsor, Pattison's Patisserie will be providing cupcakes for each of the girls. We have also sourced unicorn goals for our youngest participants to tie in with our G6/G7 team named Unicorn United. 4-5pm: Girls 4 to 9 years 5-6pm: Girls 10 to 12 years 6-7:15pm: Girls 13 to 14 years

Training session mid week - 8/9 May Two years ago we were lucky to have Leah Blayney visit and run a training session for our senior girls. The session was amazing, the girls were extremely grateful and loved the support Football Australia was providing at a local club level. The event was leveraged on social media by Football Australia to promote the week. This type of engagement really shows how important it is to keep growing and working together to build female football in Australia. We would like to do something similar this year. If you have 1-2 current or past players, a coach or anyone suitable to host a session on either a Wednesday (Senior Girls teams) or Thursday (Junior Girls teams) night, just let us know and we can discuss further. The intention being to empower players with knowledge of their body and how to prevent injury to stay in the game for as long as possible. In conjunction with the physio event all female players will receive a gift from the club acknowledging them as being important and contribution valued. All coachs and managers of female teams with receive a pink cap in recognition. We will also be acknowledging all the mums as on Mothers Day with a free tea or coffee. We will be running a social media campaign for the duration of Female Football week highlighting the different roles females play in the game. Volunteers, friends, sisters, coaches, managers, players etc etc

Mini matches will be running from 10:00am to 12:00 noon on small pitches. (Teams will be made up based on who shows up with a mix of age ranges) Skills training and advice from Dave Fenton 10:30 to 11:30. Penalty shooting competition! There will also be our own club's female referees in attendance to ref the matches, and female players, coaches, and managers of all ages to answer your questions. Open to any age of current or future players.
