A cool morning and stone buildings at the University of Sydney provided the perfect backdrop to a day of fun and learning for over 50 teachers from around Sydney, one pair of teachers making the 650Km journey via a one hour flight from Moree in north west NSW.

Football NSW through the Sport Unit of the Department of Education has established a strong relationship with the objective of providing high quality training and support for Federation members.  Tis support includes the running of these days which offers a fully accredited 5 hour course.  The courses are run specially for primary and secondary teachers, each having a very different focus whilst sharing a common methodology.

The teachers are provided with both online support in the shape of session / lesson plans and physical support with gear and equipment to assist them with providing the best possible experience for their students.

Oscar Gonzalez, Coach Education Manager said

“The day’s learning experience was further enhanced by the attendance of Dr Steve Georgakis, Senior Lecturer of Pedagogy and Sports Studies Sydney School of Education and Social Work who provided great insights and feedback to the teachers as well as Andrew Morris, Technical & Game Development Manager with Canterbury & District Soccer Football Association who facilitated one of the groups”

“Teachers are the at the front line connecting children to sport and are instrumental in the promotion of the football and a healthy active lifestyle” said Dr steve Georgakis,

“Courses like these are essential in ensuring that teachers are armed with the knowledge to be better equipped to provide a sound football experience”

The teachers were also treated to a special visit from Football Club Barcelona’s Barça Universitas Manager Strategy & Knowledge, Marcos Picalló Aguilar and  Jordi Fernández Lie both very interested in how school teachers are engaged in learning football.
