Round 7 marks the halfway point for the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens season and the top three have started to make their move. Below them, the competition is packed tightly and makes for four intriguing contests to play out this weekend.

Match of the Round: Dural Warriors vs Sydney City Eagles, Saturday 2 November, 3:50pm, The Centre – Dural

The rampaging Dural Warriors welcome Sydney City Eagles to The Centre – Dural as the hosts look to keep their unbeaten run alive headed into the second half of the season.

Goals were on the agenda last week for both teams. Dural hit double figures in their ruthless display against SD Raiders Futsal whilst Sydney City Eagles were on the wrong side of a 9-6 result against Sydney Futsal Club.

The headlines come from the goals but Dural have set themselves apart from the pack with their defense. Only three goals conceded through six games which allows Abbey Lemon – last week’s hat-trick hero and Golden Boot leader Rachel Perrins to find the net consistently.

It will take a full 50-minute effort from the Eagles to topple the undefeated leaders but there is plenty of goals in the side. Melina Manna, Jess Beale and Abigail Thompson are proven net finders and need to unlock the Warriors defense to cause shockwaves with an upset.

West City Crusaders vs South Coast Taipans, Saturday 2 November, 4:50pm, Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium

South Coast Taipans go west to take on the challenge of West City Crusaders in a second verse fifth battle on Saturday afternoon at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium.

Both sides come off victorious games last start. Crusaders edged a tense contest 2-1 against Phoenix Futsal Club. For the Taipans, they continued to rack up the points in a comfortable 3-1 success against Raiders Futsal Club.

The Crusaders have shown they can be a thorn in the side of anyone in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens. The dual threat of Kaitlin Harms and Dione King are proven goal scorers that need to held in check by the stubborn Taipans defense.

Onto the Taipans, since their “reality check” the side has rediscovered their attitude and it shows in only conceding a single goal in each game. Combine that with the consistent scoring of Lisa Prior and Kya Stewart should propel them to success most weeks.

Raiders Futsal Club vs Phoenix Futsal Club, Saturday 2 November, 5:40pm, Thomas Hassell Anglican College

Fourth placed Phoenix Futsal Club take a trip to Thomas Hassell Anglican College taking on Raiders Futsal Club in an important battle for the last finals spot on Saturday.

The ladder below the top three remains congested with both sides coming off last start losses. Phoenix were defeated 2-1 by Crusaders while Raiders Futsal Club lost to a clinical South Coast Taipans side 3-1 in the Match of the Round.

Headed into the second half of the season, this game will a key marker for how the two sides will be set up for that stretch. Raiders Futsal Club hope to revive their campaign and keep their hopes of back-to-back Grand Finals alive. Phoenix Futsal Club have shown in spurts their quality but need to put it together more often to challenge – starting on Saturday.

Sydney Futsal Club vs SD Raiders Futsal, Saturday 2 November, 6:20pm, All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre

The surprise packet of the season Sydney Futsal Club aim to keep their run alive as they welcome SD Raiders Futsal to All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre for a fascinating contest Saturday night.

Sydney Futsal Club remain in a lofty position of third after their 9-6 success against Sydney City Eagles last weekend was their third positive result in a row. SD Raiders Futsal were the latest to get thumped by Dural Warriors with the 11-nil result.

For this Sydney side, they are starting to become harder to ignore as a contender this season. 20 goals scored in their three-straight victories which is off the back of magnificent form of Morgan Maxwell – fresh from a hat-trick last weekend – and the combination with Abbey Harrison and Georgia Manos which the visitors need to stop.

The saving grace for SD Raiders Futsal and the whole bottom half of the competition is how close it is between fourth and eighth spot. That means if SD Raiders can find the form of earlier this season they can quickly shoot up the ladder.
