In some much needed positive news for our sport, Revesby Workers Football Club’s Sam Stanley (pictured above with the award) and Dunbar Rovers’ Peter Hennessy (pictured below) have taken out respective individual honours in the 2020 Sportscover Clubbies Awards announced today.

Stanley has worked tirelessly over the years at the well-run Bankstown & Districts Soccer Football Association based club as he took out the ‘Best Administrator’ category.

Having arrived from India originally, Stanley  joined the NSW outfit in 1997 and quickly established himself as the man to get things done. Softly spoken and enthusiastic, his influence as a player, committee member, president and football visionary helped turn the fallen giant into one of the leading football clubs in the football mad area. He championed junior development, turbo-charged the emergence of female football and played a pivotal role in establishing the Workers as an all-year inclusive club. While still in his 30s he was recognised with Life membership.

“This is not something I expected in my wildest dreams.

“I am very proud of what the club has achieved over the last few years.

“In the last six years we have almost double the size of our club.

“Our summer program which includes the kindies, the juniors the girls and ladies programs are the only programs that are run by a grassroots club in our area.

“The emphasis that the club has placed on the girls and ladies football has translated into 30% of our club now represented by females.

“None of this can be achieved without our dedicated set of volunteers and community members at grassroots clubs.

“I thank all of them for their valued support.”

Hennessy, a well-known figure in the National Premier Leagues circles with NPL 3 NSW Men’s side and Eastern Suburbs based club Dunbar Rovers was the other football recipient taking out the ‘Media Award’ category.

Hennessy has bled Dunbar Rovers through and through for the last several seasons and this has shown through his dedication to the club and the sport.

Described as “insanely devoted”, Hennessy has helped grow the club’s social media traffic and engagement with a commitment to content quality that has generated TV coverage on SBS and Channel 7.

“On behalf of Dunbar Rovers FC NPL, we were delighted and honoured to receive the Clubbies 2020 Best Media Award.

“We put a lot of thought, effort and time into our social media, trying to provide interesting and regular content for our followers.

“It is also a great way to keep our members connected off the field.

“To be recognised nationally by the sporting public is very pleasing.

“Congratulations to the other award winners, thank you to everyone who voted for us and a special shout out to Sportscover and Inside Sport for sponsoring the competition.”

Albury Wodonga Football Association also gained a notable mention as they were nominated in the best Association in NSW category with regional association finishing runners-up.

Football NSW would like to congratulate both award winners for flying the football flag.
