Lilli Pilli FC’s Purple Reign

FROM-FOOTBALLER-TO-BAKER-1-5

Across the first three weekends in September, Sutherland Shire Football Association side Lilli Pilli FC are totally embracing #PlayInPurple in support of pancreatic cancer for the Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.

The theme is strong and clear that Purple reigns at Lilli Pilli FC this month.

Over a hundred teams spanning all mens, womens, boys and girls age groups and grades are enthusiastically participating wearing purple socks at Lilli Pilli FC.

The oldest and the youngest were united in a great cause.

“We’re excited to be part of the #PlayInPurple campaign with the Avner Foundation,” said Club President Greg Storey.

“Pacncreatic cancer is in need of much great awareness and generally needs much greater attention and funding. We wanted to help take #PlayInPurple to the next level. We wanted to see a flood of purple on the field and off the field through our social media channels.

“In our first weekend, we had tremendous support across our club and from the community generally.

“Our committee, our coaches, managers and some of our local referees all jumped on board to help make sure purple reigned across the weekend.

“Awareness is really important and we’ve created many conversations, sometimes awkward at first, about what the purple socks are for.

“A highlight for us is the positive spirit we’ve felt across so many grounds across our district as we played in purple socks. At our home grounds the positive buzz was tremendous, particularly amongst our MiniRoos who went to great lengths to embrace purple (paint on their face as well as ribbons and colour in their hair). Everyone was really happy to make a positive contribution to a great cause.

“We know pancreatic cancer is a dreadful disease and if we can help bring greater attention to pancreatic cancer and encourage other football clubs to do the same, we’re thankful.”
