Football St George side Peakhurst United are busily preparing for its fourth All Age Women in Football ‘Pink Ribbon Gala Day’ set to be held on Sunday 7th of March (9am) at Peakhurst Park Synthetic with vacant spots still open in what is set to be an amazing day with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Research.

The 7-a-side twenty-minute game format has been a smash hit as Peakhurst United’s Registrar and Pink Ribbon Gala Day sub committee member Sharon Whyte has been delighted with how the day has developed since its inception in 2018.

“In the three years we have run this, we have had 30 clubs including teams from Epping, Nowra, Bankstown Association, Balmain, Sutherland Association and St George Association.

“We are looking to have a few more teams join us in 2021 from other parts of Sydney and NSW.

“We would love to have some guest Australian Female Football representatives come down. It’s a fun day with other activities happening such as food stalls as well as good football.”

Asked how the idea first came about, Whyte stated it was through one of the club’s All-Age Women footballers.

“The idea originated from one of our All-Age Women players, Leanne Smith. Her mother and mother-in-law were both diagnosed with Breast Cancer within one year of each other. She approached our committee to see if she could organise the Pink Ribbon Gala Day with the help of our committee.

“Football St George came on board in the second year and we were lucky to get last year’s Gala Day in before COVID-19 shut the competition down for a while.

“Our local member, Mark Coure, Federal member, David Coleman and Mayor of Georges River Council, Kevin Greene, are great supporters of our event which we are very grateful for.”

Peakhurst United are eagerly anticipating a huge 2021 football season as the club looks set for bigger and better things with registrations kicking off.

“The club is looking to be better than ever in 2021.

“Whilst last season was challenging, we didn’t lose many players due to the impact of COVID-19.

“That is a great testament to the commitment of the players, coaches, volunteers, and the committee.

“We have a new field being laid this year, new club kits, a development program for our players and for the first time, looking to working in the community to help those that need it.”
