Demolition of Epping’s Boronia Park’s sport sheds will mark a new era for the area’s oldest football club, North West Sydney Football Association side Epping Eastwood Tigers FC, as construction of a new multimillion-dollar sports pavilion gets underway.

Epping Eastwood Tigers Club President Chris Salmon said closing the doors for the last time on the 20-year-old “Ian Kendal Sheds” marks a moment in history for the 70 year-old football club, formed in 1952, and the local community that love it – but the Tigers’ eyes are firmly focused on the future.

“Packing up has unearthed a lot of the Club’s long history but we have well and truly outgrown these old sheds and a new and bigger modern facility is what the area and the Club desperately needed,” Mr Salmon said.

“With over 500 members and growing, we have been calling for new and improved facilities, so work by Parramatta City Council has been met with great excitement from our members.

“This is our last weekend to get everything out to make way for the wrecking ball that will see the current small shed and toilet block replaced with a modern sports pavilion that has improved accessibility, much better change rooms and toilets that cater to men and women players and increased storage.”

Tigers’ Life Member and former Club President Ian Kendal said despite the old sheds being named after him in recognition of his community service and long association with the Club, he was excited by what the new pavilion will deliver for football and sport in Epping.

“Since these sheds were built almost two decades ago, thousands of players have run out of them to take the field at Boronia Park and play for the Tigers,” Mr Kendal said.

“Since I joined the Tigers in 1981, I have seen the community of Epping and the interest in football continue to grow.  Football has a big future in this region and the multimillion-dollar new facilities will cater for.”

Club President Chris Salmon acknowledged the work of all three local Epping Ward Councillors – Councillor Bill Tyrrell, Councillor Donna Davis and Councillor Lorraine Wearne who were instrumental in getting this Council project underway.

“New facilities are part of building a healthy and active community by providing appropriate facilities for people of all ages to enjoy,” Mr Salmon said.

“The Tigers are part of what makes the Epping Eastwood community what it is – we are part of our area’s history and we want to be part of its future.  This new sheds will allow more people to play a sport they love locally, make friends and be connected to their community.”

Demolition starts on the 3 March and the final Clubhouse is expected to be completed by November 2021.
