St Ignatius College Riverview crowned St Andrew’s Cup Champions

Valentine Sports Park was abuzz of St Andrew’s Cup fever as 14 schools took part in the prestigious tournament with St Ignatius College Riverview running out eventual winners with a 3-1 victory against Marist North Shore Catholic College in a thrilling finale on Wednesday.

Led by coach Jimmy Magill, the Riverview boys defeated Oakhill (5-1), St Pius X (6-0) and St Aloysius (2-1) in the group stages before downing Barker College in the Semis to reach the big dance.

Prior to the big final, 2019 St Andrew’s Cup winners Waverley defeated Moriah 2-0 to take out the Plate.

It was a who’s who of private schools as the likes of Barker College, St Aloysius College, Cranbrook School, Newington College, St Joseph’s, Oakhill, Sydney Boys High, St Pius X College and St Spyridon College also took part in what was a fantastic two days of school’s football action for students in Years 11 and 12.

It was a monumental tournament with the famous schools Cup running for well over 20 years.

A unique competition, schools from across the various sporting associations including GPS, CAS, ISA and MCC were all involved.
