Twenty-one-year-old Contemporary Aboriginal artist Nikeeta Haverfield has officially designed Football NSW’s amazing NAIDOC Cup playing strips in time for the First Nations tournament which commences on Monday the 3rd of July at Valentine Sports Park.

The talented artist hailing from Western Sydney was proud to have played a pivotal role in honouring her Indigenous community with these incredible designs.

“Honouring this year’s NAIDOC theme for Our Elders, this artwork represents the passing of knowledge through time, respect and the strong connections we build between our communities and friendships,” said Haverfield.

The 2023 NAIDOC Cup has expanded to a three-day event from Monday 3rd July to Wednesday 5th July.

The NAIDOC Cup coincides with NAIDOC Week, a national week held in July that celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Once again, Football NSW and Northern NSW Football will enter male and female teams in the under-14s and under-16s age groups, with squads made up of First Nations players. The tournament will also engage First Nations coaches and referees from across the state.

The NAIDOC Cup is one initiative of the Football Legacy Program, a $10 million investment from the NSW Government into the NSW football community to develop the game ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The event is in partnership with Football NSW’s Indigenous Advisory Group.
