Football Wagga celebrates successful Gala Days
Football fever hit Wagga Wagga recently as the world game was celebrated amongst the thousands of boys and girls from the local area as well as Tumut, Gundagai, and Junee.
Football Wagga hosted its successful annual Mini Matilda’s and mini Socceroos School Gala Days.
The objective behind these days were promoting participation as well as seeing the many boys and girls enjoying the round ball game representing their local schools.
“The whole idea is to give an opportunity to all students within the primary schools the chance to experience the sport and hopefully enjoy being part of a team and potentially sign up to play for a local club,” said Football Wagga Development Officer Liam Dedini.
“Schools can enter as many teams in each age group as they like and it’s all about seeing the kids have as much fun as possible playing our sport.
“These days also give an opportunity for High School students to get a taste of what it is like to be a game leader or referee as they come and help facilitate the games each day.
“The annual Mini Matilda’s and Mini Socceroos gala days were a great success with thousands of kids running around throughout the week. There were representative players, local club players, kids who only play at school and kids who have never played before.
“In total we had 170 teams from 17 schools in attendance with over 2000 kids over the 4 days in Wagga Wagga.”
Football Wagga Wagga continued its football promotion with a gala day in Junee which saw over 250 students from the local area come together for a fun day.
“We had 27 teams on the day,” Dedini stated to Football NSW.
“This day was held at Burns Park in Junee.
“Our final School gala day was our biggest and was held at The Bull Paddock Oval in Tumut. With the help of the Tumut Eagles and the Gundagai Panthers we successfully pulled off a fantastic day of Football for primary school kids from Tumut, Gundagai, and the smaller country towns in that area.
“The day saw 18 fields running with 550 plus students running around from over 10 schools with 60 teams.
“Over the 6 massive days, we made contact with close to 3000 primary school students and hope to see some of these kids running around for their local club in the 2024 season,” Dedini ended.
