Small Sided Games an Association Hit

Small sided games have been seen as the next big thing in the round ball game in Australia and this has shown with the recent participation of a massive 17 associations from across NSW for 2008.

Blacktown, Canterbury, Dubbo, Eastern Suburbs, Eurobodalla, Far South Coast, Gladesville-Hornsby, Granville, Ku-Ring-Gai, Lachlan, Mitchell, Nepean, North West Sydney Womens, Orange, St George, Wagga Wagga and Sutherland associations have all responded to piloting small sided games in various age groups for 2008 in their respected areas.

Small-sided games have been seen as a key initiative of the National Football Development Plan and players, clubs, associations and Football NSW in conjunction with the FFA will see the benefits of SSG in providing opportunity for:

• more fun and individual enjoyment due to smaller fields and simplified rules
• more playing time, which maximises individual participation and involvement
• far more repeated touches of the ball by all players on the field
• more shots on goal*more involvement leading to greater improvement in fitness

Australian technical director Rob Baan was very impressed with the objectives small-sided games offered to young Australian footballers.

?Small-sided games is about learning, self experiencing, having a lot of touches on the ball and above all, as David Beckham said recently: ?a lot of FUN!.?
