Sydney FC defender pushes for National selection

But they aren?t the only Sydney FC stars hoping to fly the club?s flag on the international stage.
On Monday defender, Nikolas Tsattalios went into camp with the young Socceroos in Canberra, hoping to impress the squad?s new coach ahead of tournaments in Thailand and Saudi Arabia later this year.
Over five days in the Nation?s capital Qantas Young Socceroos? coach Jan Versleijen will run his eyes over the rising stars of Australian football, and for Tsattalios it?s another opportunity to add to his growing resume.
In his second year with Sydney FC, the New South Wales institute of sport product is keen to cement a spot in John Kosmina?s starting lineup, after becoming the youngest ever player to debut in the Hyundai A-League when he came on as a substitute against Perth in round eight last season.
?I?m grateful to be given that opportunity by Kossie last year, but this year I want to play a more important role in the team, if I?m given an opportunity I?ve just got to take my chances and prove myself to the manager.?
Sydney is still searching for an experienced left back but Tsattalios hopes to focus his coach?s search closer to home.
?If I can prove my worth to Kossie he might not have to sign a left back, but even if he does, I?ll have a bit of competition there so I?ll have to fight for my place, which will be good for me as well.?
He added that training and playing along-side the likes of John Aloisi, Steve Corica and Tony Popovic is the perfect environment to serve a football apprenticeship.
?I just think I?m lucky to be here, and grateful to be here, and it?s good for me because I can learn off these players, you know Tony has always given me those little tips and I think I?m improving as a footballer.?
The 18 strong Young Socceroos squad will be in camp in Canberra until Friday.
