State League Division Two Round 5 Review
Match of the Round
Gazy Lansvale v Hawkesbury City
Gazy Lansvale has comfortably defeated Hawkesbury City 3-0 at Cherrybrook Park on Sunday afternoon.
The home-side was always in control of the game with some quality possession and passing really proving too much for the Hawkesbury midfield. It took only 6? minutes for the first chance of the match as F. Wilson played an exceptional ball into the path of H. Meroanovic who struck a shot only for it to take a deflection off for a corner.
Lansvale dominated the game through Meroanovic, N. Alemic, F. Wilson, and A. Rashid dominating through the midfield and upfront, and to top it off, their defence was sensational with M. Barett and D. Imamovic outstanding across the backline picking up a clean sheet for the home-side.
Hawkesbury struggled throughout but did have a chance via a free-kick when J.Chircop leaped over the defence for an attacking header. A good attempt, though the ball sailed to the right. Lansvale dominated but their finishing was sloppy at times, despite the quality of football being played throughout the first-half. But this all changed right on the 45? minute just seconds before the break when N. Alemic blasted a sensational shot 25-metres out giving his side a 1-0 lead at the break.
A. Rashid was playing well up front for the home-side and he maintained his performance in the second-half. F. Wilson dominated the midfield again for Lansvale with Hawkesbury struggling to compete in their usual style. Wilson struck a shot in the 47? minute from 20-metres out that could have given his side a 2-0 lead, but the shot just missed to the right; a great effort on his part. Lansvale outplayed their opposition and were playing with a lot of confidence.
The home-side continued their dominate performance through F. Wilson, probably the best player on the field for the game. His brilliant 69? minute cross from the right side found A. Rashid lurking in the box to nicely header away a second for the home-side. The home crowd was pleased with their sides performance cheering on for more goals to be scored. Hawkesbury, despite their poor performance, was just beaten by a better side on the day. However, the side never stopped attacking, N. Cotter and R. Cooper were always trying to set up some kind of attack.
Despite their efforts though, the Lansvale side prevailed and finished the game off via the penalty-spot in the 90? minute when Hawkesbury defender handled the ball inside the box. H. Meroanovic slotted the ball nicely to the right to give his side a 3-0 win. Lansvale Manager Safet Alispahic was very pleased with his side?s performance saying that this was an example of how well this team can play:
?I am very happy about the performance, we could have scored so many more goals today, but I believe we did a great job in controlling the game.
?The team looked good and I am confident that when we meet White City on Wednesday we will be prepared, and with the way we?re playing now this team can do really well this year. I?m really proud of them today?.

Springwood v Prospect United
Prospect United has comfortably defeated Springwood 6-0 at Summerhayes Park on Saturday Night. Prospect started well and should have taken the lead in the 2? minute after an error from the Springwood defence, where Shane Crampton volleyed into the ground only to see the ball go over the crossbar.
Prospect had a number of near misses and some fine goalkeeping from the Springwood goalkeeper kept the away side out. However, it only took the away side 24? minutes for the breakthrough. An error from the Springwood defence saw Pasquale Landrelli play a neat one-two with Shane Crampton, the latter finishing to open the score in the 24? minute.
The next 15? minutes went from end to end with both teams missing chances. Springwood was extremely dangerous on the counter-attack and missed a few chances.
Springwood was excellent via set pieces and could have scored a couple if not for some poor finishing. In the 40? minute some good build-up work from Chris Senat and Alex Pejic saw Alfred David put a neat pass to pierce the Springwood defence to see Pasquale Landrelli chip the on-coming Springwood goalkeeper. Prospect led 2-0, and four minutes later, the side increased the lead to three when Crampton, with some nice footwork, beat his marker to slot the ball into the net.
The second-half began with the away side showing some fine passing which lead to a Shane Crampton hat-trick in the 50? minute. Three minutes later Pasquale Landrelli scored his second after good play from the midfield. The sixth arrived in the 90? minute after a fine flick by Pasquale to Daniel Matan who neatly slotted the ball passed the Springwood shot-stopper.
Brian Vella was impressed and said his side played well but there are still areas that needed to be improved on:
?Best for Prospect were the back three Jason Lewis, Mark Stead and Chris Senat never gave the Springwood attack time. Pasquale Landrelli and Shane Crampton continually put the Springwood defence under pressure. I was happy with our finishing and work ethic but we still have a few areas to work on.?
