Nepean Radio Show Shines Light on Grassroots Football

wow

The talk show, which can be heard from Blacktown to Katoomba on 100.7 or streamed live via www.wowfm1007.com.au , covers all Nepean association news as well as reports on Aussies abroad, the Socceroos, the Telechoice Premier League, the A-League and the English Premier League.

It also provides free advertisement to coaching clinics or camps that are within the Penrith Nepean area , with anyone able to give themselves a plug by calling in or informing the radio show beforehand.
The show is run by Kevin Taunton and accompanied by English born Gary Lawson, two football loving players and former coaches within the local area. Together, they do a magnificent job at covering all local news with good humor and a well balanced mix of domestic and international football gossip. Their friendly, smooth ?banter? on everything football is very professional and comprehensive.
?As the show grows and more people find out about what we are doing, we see more calls coming in with questions and comments,? said Kevin .
?We encourage callers and invite anyone listening to give us their take on any football related issue.?
The show aims to develop football in the western suburbs, help Penrith Nepean become the strongest club possible and to help keep kids playing within the Nepean district for as long as possible.
?You see so much talented players leave the Nepean area so early and go elsewhere to play,? said Kevin.
?Hopefully our show can help build football within Nepean and keep players within the area so it can continue to grow.
?The biggest aim is to help Penrith Nepean secure a spot to become an A-League outfit in the near future,? he added.
With stars such as Danny Vukovic, Mark Milligan and Mark Bridge all sprouting from their Nepean nests, the region isn?t short of talent.
The show also features players, coaches and media representatives from the local area to have their say.
Former Penrith Nepean first grade coach, Ian Gillan ; local clubs such as St.Clair United Soccer Club and other Soccer Academies are just a few of those featured on the show. Steve Wilkinson, Marketing Director at Penrith Nepean United has also been featured on the show providing giveaways and free tickets to matches.
The only people, according to Kevin, who they have trouble attracting onto the show, are the referees.
The Penrith Nepean Football Hour is a volunteer based segment with Kevin and Gary not seeing a penny for their incredible community benefiting work. For the past 18 months Kevin has actually had to personally sponsor the show himself in order to keep it running.
?We don?t do it for money. We do it because we enjoy sharing local football news with the community, it?s that simple,? said Kevin.
