The Youth League Report (Division One Youth League) Finals Series Review Round 3
As expected, the quality of play was terrific and a credit to each of the teams on hand. In addition, the weather gods were really smiling as they provided a sparkling day.
All is now in readiness for a return to Jensen Park next week for the much anticipated Grand Finals day. It is rightly expected that next Saturday will once again produce a series of thrillers that will delight everyone present on the day.
Grade 13
Premiers Sydney University had beaten fifth placed Springwood both times in their competition encounters, 5-0 in the first round and then 4-0 the second time around.
Springwood really turned the tables on Uni this time around when they were 1-0 winners, a result that continues the fantastic finals form of the lads from the Blue Mountains and it has given a place in the Grand Final while Uni have now completed their commitments to the finals series.
Grade 14
Second placed Sydney University had gone down 1-0 when they met third placed Mt Druitt Town Rangers in the first round of the competition and then the second round match was a 0-0 draw. The Rangers defeated Uni 2-0 in the Preliminary Semi Final played a fortnight ago.
The Rangers proved that their earlier final series win over Uni was no fluke as they once again came up with a win, this time with a 1-0 scoreline. That was enough to take them through to the Grand Final while Uni have bowed out of the finals series gracefully.
Grade 15
Premiers Fraser Park had claimed all the points when they faced third placed Rockdale City Suns in the competition, winning the first round match 2-0 and the second round clash 4-1.
Rockdale sprang a genuine surprise on Fraser Park when the Suns took out the game with a 2-1 result and that has granted them the right to play in the Grand Final while Fraser Park Have now completed their commitments to the finals series.
Grade 16
Premiers Sydney University had beaten third placed St George 7-0 when they met in the first round of the competition but the Saints had squared the ledger in the second round when they were 3-1 winners.
Sydney University came up trumps when they posted a 2-0 result this time around and that has given them the final steps on the pathway to the Grand Final while the Saints have bowed out of the finals series with the pride well and truly intact.
Grade 18
Second placed Fraser Park had lost their first round encounter with third placed Camden Tigers 6-4 and then Fraser Park were second round winners with a 3-2 scoreline. Fraser Park had then won the Preliminary Semi Final clash with Camden 4-2 on penalties after the match finished at 1-1.
It was somewhat predictable that this would be yet another close match and that is exactly what happened. When the full-time whistle sounded Camden were ahead 3-2 and that has granted the right to play in the Grand Final while Fraser Park have completed their commitments to the finals series.
