The new Ilinden Sports Centre was received with open arms by 5000 members of the community who came down to support the Rockdale City Suns? new spiritual home.
Local members of parliament and Rockdale City Council also showed their support and participated in several events to mark the memorable day. Hon. Minister for Environment Frank Sator, Hon. Shaoquette Moselmane and Mayor Bill Saravinovski came to share the experience. The club also had the presence of the Ambassador of Macedonia Pero Stojanovski from Canberra.
The morning began with the official opening of the club where Frank Sator cut the ribbon at the gate entrance.
Crowds of supporters and media gathered to watch this long awaited moment.
After the cutting of the ribbon, other ritual formalities followed, three flags were then erected at the front of the clubhouse with the Australian Flag, the Rockdale City Suns Flag and the Football NSW flag all raised for the epic event.
Following the raising of the flags, Frank Sator unveiled the plaque on the wall of the clubhouse that marked the day?s celebration.
Moving along from the unveiling, the crowds began to move to the side of the club where Bill Saravinovski planted a Mongolia tree to represent the beginning of a fruitful journey for the club of Rockdale. Each Member of Parliament, council and club executives helped to plant the tree.
After the planting of the tree, crowds flowed over to the clubhouse where another ribbon was cut by the highest bidders Jason and Natali Adioski, holding their son Steve. Jason proudly donated $5,000 to the club and earned the privilege of officially opening the clubhouse with the large golden key, which will see many celebrations in the future.
Inside the clubhouse, guests were treated to some encouraging words from the Members of Parliament, Rockdale Council and the club president, and they were entertained by a number of dancing groups from our community.
The long anticipated football match kicked-off at 4pm. The Preston Lions put up a strong fight but weren?t able to get past the adrenaline-fuelled team of Rockdale. The victory was a great way to open the new ground. Rockdale were honoured to have shared that special moment with the Preston Lions who flew in from Melbourne earlier that day.
After the game the festivities did not end, there were over 30 singers who volunteered to perform.
The guests were more than pleased as they danced along as the night progressed.
The official Grand Opening of the new Ilinden Sports Centre was captured by UBI World TV and was televised around the world.
