FSC is a new association, unifying the Illawarra Football Association, Illawarra Junior Football Association and the Illawarra Women?s Football Association.
FSC have also unveiled a new logo, based on the Football Federation Australia logo.
“We have created something special, a unique but familiar emblem that personifies where we love to live,?? De Gabriele said.
“We have incorporated the beautiful blue sea and our golden sun drenched beaches, nestled under our rich green escarpment and National Parks.??
“No where else in Australia is there a place where these three great and unique features can be enjoyed by over 400,000 people and still be within one hour of Australia?s biggest city?.
There are eight stars in the logo, each representing the various stakeholders in FSC.
Besides the unified associations, there is a star for the referees association, South Coast Wolves, Illawarra Stingrays, the Illawarra Taipans Futsal team, and another representing the South Coast?s A-League franchise consortium.
FSC General Manager Graeme Haney believes that the South Coast is ready to have a team in the A-League.
“We believe that South Coast is strong enough to host a team and we have to convince the A-League that we should be part of it,?? Haney said.
“ There is enough support, there?s the question of getting the right amount of dollars through the door.??
“ Right now we?re working closely with Sydney FC and we work closely to promote them until one of our own teams becomes a reality.??
With the new recognisable yet unique logo unveiled, De Gabriele believes FSC are in a strong position to attract corporate sponsorship.
“This unification of all football streams here in the Illawarra has been highly pubicised in the TV and print media and is attracting high corporate interest through major sponsorships and has enabled us to initiate exciting new programs and opportunities,?? De Gabriele said.
Haney outlined one of those programs, aimed at providing registered footballers with more value for money.
“We believe that it?s too expensive to play football at the moment. We want to add value to the registration packages,?? Haney said.
“Rewards will be made available to players to help them recoup what they pay for rego in retail outlets around the Illawarra.??
De Gabriele said some of the offers would include big savings on physiotherapy, and discounts and retailers like furniture stores and fraternity clubs.
With a new association, logo and a push for an A-League club, the future of football in the Illawarra looks bright.
