Football South Coast receive boost
?This $2.5 million grant will help Football South Coast secure the site from Wollongong Sport and Recreation Centre and complete the construction,? Mr Campbell said before adding ?I am thrilled the NSW Government has agreed to fund the $2.5 million needed for work at Lysaghts Oval.?
Premier Keneally said: ?David Campbell has been a passionate advocate for this project on behalf of the Illawarra community,? and that is what?s following his strong representations that she was delighted to announce the NSW Government will provide an additional $2.5 million to complete construction of the stadium and transfer the site to Football South Coast.
Commenting on the announcement, Football South Coast Chairman Eddy De Gabriele, praised the efforts of Mr Campbell and stated the support of the NSW Government was another monumental vote of confidence for the recently unified administration and management under Football South Coast.
?Football South Coast (FSC) has been formally acknowledged by Football Federation Australia, Football NSW, local councils and now the NSW Government, as the governing body for all football activity and competitions played under the control of Football NSW in the Illawarra Zone. This level of support would never have been possible, prior to unification and it is a real and tangible result of what can achieve when all parties work together?, Mr De Gabriele said.
Mr De Gabriele stressed that the development would pose no financial burden on existing members of the football fraternity and upon completion would provide the facility that was originally intended when the Wollongong Wolves and Wollongong Olympic clubs vacated Brandon Park.
Football South Coast?s Communication and Media Director Sandy Depers confirmed the Lysaghts development was one of several infrastructure projects FSC is working on to securing the future of the sport, at all levels in the region.
