Match of the Round
WEST CITY FC V HAKOAH
Deklan Gilmartin put Hakoah in the lead as early as the 2? minute with 2011 golden boot winner, Neil Jabslonski doubling their lead after just 17? minutes.
West City FC Marksman Jason Browne pinned a goal back with a wonder strike in the 25? minute but Hakoah pushed on to score three unanswered goals via Jamie Watt, Justin Kosmina and Eran Rimmer to keep their perfect start to the season intact.
The crowd didn?t have to wait too long for the first goal of the game as a decent cross in by Hakoah defender Daan Ranshuijsen was poorly dealt with by West City, and midfield maestro Deklan Gilmartin made the home side pay as he pounced on the loose ball to put Hakoah in the lead after just 2? minutes.
West City were a little shell-shocked and were forced to attack from long range early on, as Amritpal Singh snapped a shot from 30 yards out that drifted away from goal.
Hakoah had a great chance in the 14? minute to go two up as a clever cross in by Nathan Kosmina hovered around the goal line before West City bashfully cleared to rid of the danger.
Jamie Watt found Justin Kosmina with room to move in the 17? minute, and the nimble striker unselfishly spread the ball out wide for an overlapping run by Michael Katz whose dangerous cross into the box was again poorly dealt with the by the West City backline. The botched clearance bobbled up to none other than Neil Jablonski who showed excellent technique to half volley into the top left hand corner to give Hakoah a two goal buffer inside 20? minutes of play.
West City played a quick short free kick to try and catch Hakoah off guard some moments later but Browne?s potent drive from 40 yards had too much muscle as it sailed well over the crossbar.
West City got their breakthrough on 25? minutes. Hakoah were caught by surprise, giving away an unnecessary free-kick on the edge of the 18 yard box as West City pressed high up the field. Jason Browne stepped up to the plate and blasted his shot through a tight opening past the wall and into the back of the net, giving Dal Broi no chance.
Browne?s goal flurried West City into life as they started to gain some much needed field possession against the 2011 Grand Final winners. However it was Hakoah who almost made it 3-1 in the 30? minute as Justin Kosmina glanced his header from close range just wide of the goal.
West City?s Brendan Mitrovich collected a nice through ball on the counter attack just a minute later. Closing in on goal, the striker?s run was halted by the lineman?s flag.
West City won a controversial free kick right on the edge of the 18 yard box in the 35? minute. Yannick Misfud hit a low drive effort that lacked any real conviction, which was an easy picking for the Hakoah custodian.
In the 41? minute, Neil Jablonski latched onto a through ball near the by-line, sliding his effort from out wide to find Jamie Watt who made no mistake from just a few yards out as he side-footed past the helpless Peter Akers to put Hakoah in a commanding position 3-1 up.
Following the break, Jason Browne used his pace to beat Patrick Davrill to the ball near the box and cut back for Yannick Misfud, whose scuffed shot swirled near the goalmouth but Brendan Mitrovich at full stretch was unable to latch onto the ball as it dribbled out for a goal kick.
Daan Ranshuijsen who was causing West City problems out wide all day ventured down the left flank and brilliantly hit a pin point cross for Justin Kosmina who skillfully volleyed the ball onto the bottom of the crossbar, watching it roll over the line to put Hakoah in front 4-1 after just 52? minutes.
Down the other end West City?s Yannick Misfud had a chance to get a goal back for the home side, but his mistimed header rolled out for a goal kick on 59? minutes.
In the 65? minute, Hakoah continued their dominance with their fifth goal as Michael Katz looped a clever cross to find the unmarked Eran Rimmer, who brought the ball down with a tight first touch and finished in the bottom right hand corner, giving Akers no chance to put the game out of West City?s reach.
Jason Browne tried his luck from distance in the 68? minute, but he failed to get any dip on the ball as it went well over the crossbar.
Alexander Davey made a mazy run, darting past a few Hakoah defenders but Dal Broi intercepted the final ball unchallenged after a mix up with Brendan Mitrovich.
With 10? minutes left on the clock, substitute Eran Rimmer stabbed a venomous volley from some distance forcing Akers into a one-handed save.
Hakoah?s final chance of the game fell to Rimmer again in the 91? minute as he let fly a shot that was straight at Peter Akers as the referee called an end to proceedings after limited injury time.
Best for Hakoah were; Neil Jablonski was in devastating form and his vision was exemplary as he scored and set up a goal for a man of the match performance; Patrick Darvill marshalled his charges from the back and was dominate in aerial battles as he kept West City very quiet in the front third; Michael Katz played his part in a dominate side, making some brilliant runs down the right flank and delivering some excellent balls into the danger area.
Best for West City were; Jason Browne scored a wonder goal and worked hard all afternoon; Jason Ferraro was lively in a losing slide and did his best to keep possession from a rampant Hakoah side; Amritpal Singh put in a good performance, chipping in with some decent overlapping runs down the left hand side.
