MMS10434

The CDSFA held its inaugural Volunteer Recognition Dinner at the Albert Palais at Leichhardt.
The evening was attended by over 300 people including the seven Mayors from the inner Councils.
The event saw the initial presentation of the Cec Barlow Awards to volunteers at a club level who had given long and outstanding service to community football in the CDSFA footprint.
Some twenty seven people, including four husband and wife couples were recipients of Cec Barlow Awards.
The Award was named after Cec Barlow who served as CDSFA President from 1933 to and including 1963. Cec Barlow is a Life Member of the Earlwood Wanderers Football Club, the Canterbury & District Soccer Football Association and Football NSW.
The Mayors made the presentations to those recipients located with Clubs that were based in their respective municipalities.
Additionally, the CDSFA also recognised small and local businesses which had been sponsors of individual clubs over long periods. Eighteen businesses were acknowledged for their investment in community football at a club level.
The evening also saw the commencement of the Vince & Val Laws Medal.
This medal is awarded to a person for extraordinary service to the CDSFA, its member clubs and the football community.
Both Vince and Val Laws were present and made the presentation to Grace Martin, one of the founders of the Roselands Club and long-time office holder within the CDSFA. Grace’s service to the game commenced in the mid 1960’s.
Grace still attends CDSFA meeting each month representing the Roselands club even though Grace is now in her 80s.
The Mayor of the City of Canada Bay, Angelo Tsirekas spoke on behalf of the local Mayors acknowledging the important role the CDSFA and the twenty two member clubs play within the community.
In particular, he expressed his civic colleagues thanks for the opportunity to be able to network with the Clubs and to take part in the presentation ceremonies.
