This weekend sees the first games of the inaugural Football NSW AWD Futsal League kick off.

Round 1 sees South Coast Taipans will clash with Kingz Rangers at the University of Wollongong Sports Hall at 10:00 am, whilst Phoenix Futsal Club host Mountain Majik at Ryde Community Sports Centre at 5:15 pm to begin the Division 1 season. Division 2 is due to begin November 30th.

Football NSW, in conjunction with Sports 4 All, NSW Government Office of Communities Sport & Recreation, Special Olympics and the Australian Paralympic Committee, developed the concept of the AWD Futsal League to promote more opportunities to athletes with disability to participate in Football NSW’s programs, as well as further the growth of futsal across NSW.

FNSW Head of Football Phil Brown was effusive in his praise for the collective effort to make the AWD Futsal League a reality.

“Football NSW is proud to launch the inaugural AWD Futsal League. Thanks to the generous support of the NSW Government Office of Communities – Sport & Recreation we are able to provide a full-time competition structure delivered in an inclusive format with the Football NSW Futsal Premier and State Leagues.”

“I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the important work of Football NSW Game Development Manager Hayley Todd in driving development of the league, and the tireless years of lobbying by those in the sport, such as Director of Sports 4 All Greg Brown, whose efforts have ensured the AWD league concept has been realised.”

“Finally, I would like to thank the players, coaches, carers and families for committing to the league and making this opportunity possible.”

The AWD Futsal League is held in conjunction with Football NSW’s “Football 4 All” initiative.
