Spectators were treated to a goal fest in the opening round of the AWD Futsal League.

Mountain Majik and Phoenix Futsal Club played out an enthralling end to end game at Ryde Community Sports Centre, which had the spectators on their feet come the final whistle. Majik came away with a well-earned 7-5 victory, with Phoenix Futsal Club pushing them to the very end.

South Coast Taipans and Kingz Rangers shared the spoils in a battling 2-2 draw played at University of Wollongong’s Sports Hub.

Sports4All Director Greg Brown was blown away by the supportive environment for the weekend’s games.

“The games on the weekend were an outstanding success. The way the crowd engaged with the players, lifting them to amazing feats (not only in goal scoring but in goal celebrations!) demonstrated that sport is the vehicle to true inclusion.”

“The skill on display by all of the players showed that the game was about futsal, completely.”

“The competition demonstrates the commitment of Football NSW to people with disabilities and their belief that football is a game for all.”

Mike Singletary from the Phoenix FC side summed up the day’s success perfectly; “Do you know my favourite part of the game? The opportunity to play.”
