Local football’s the winner at Central Coast
Joining a local football club is the first step to becoming a Socceroo, Central Coast Football Association competitions manager Alex Burgin says.
The success of the Socceroos since reaching the 2006 World Cup several youngsters have started playing football.
Central Coast Football Association officials are inviting the entire community to enjoy the world game at a local level as the beginning of something big.
“We offer competitions from under-5s so kids can join and start learning the skills of the game from very young,” he said.
“All of our current Socceroos started their careers playing for local clubs and fine tuning their trade.
“As an association we pride ourselves on developing players to become the best they can be.
“Many kids would have watched the Socceroos in the World Cup in Brazil and now in the Asian Cup and want to be like them and we offer the chance to start.
“We also offer competitions for the older players up to over-45s.
“So football can be a beginning of a career or even be used as a coming together of friends with a range of health and social benefits.”
Almost 13,000 players are registered to Central Coast Football Association under 23 clubs.
Several volunteers are also being sought to help run clubs within the association.
“Parents currently make up a majority of our volunteers but we are always looking for more to get involved,” Burgin said.
“Football really is a family sport and everyone getting involved to help is fantastic.
“When you have everyone on board and many hands it makes for light work.”
