Women play a vital role in football as players, parents and managers and this year Macarthur Football Association will show their appreciation in a special way.
The association includes 25 clubs in the Macarthur and Camden region with over 8000 players and offers female competitions for under-12s, 14, 16s, 18s and all age.

This year they will host a ‘women in football weekend’ and are inviting every woman and young girl in the region to partake in festivities.

"Last year we selected games and took them to Lynwood Park for a better atmosphere for the girls," association general manager Glen Armstrong said.

"Women are so important to our game both on and off the field.

"Football is such a great sport for women in the health and social aspect and we are sure any new player will enjoy it."

Playing football at a local level is also the beginning of great friendships and a possible professional career.
Armstrong said joining a local football club will have a range of positive outcomes going forward in life.

"I think football being the world game is a key to the fact that it unites people in so many ways," Armstrong said.

"I’ve got lifelong friends from the first football team I played in myself.

"The other thing is all the Socceroos started from humble beginnings at grassroots football.

"With hard work and dedication there is no reason why many kids in our region and association can get there themselves."
