Female football will become even bigger in 2015 with two brand new all-girls competitions at Southern Districts Soccer Football Association.

For the first time in their history the association are offering under-8 and under-10 girls competitions.

Association office manager Rosanna Lentini said it is a chance for girls to make teams of their own at a younger age and play with them right up the grades.

“Previously we have had girls play in the boys teams from the young ages through to under-12s,” she said.

“We do find that some girls do not want to play with the boys though.

“Providing we have been struggling with the Southern Districts women’s state league sides for numbers we thought we would concentrate on more girls joining football.

“Hopefully girls can get a group of friends and make teams and we will have the competitions ready to go.”

Plans are also in place to run girls competitions on Saturday afternoons and begin a over-30 ladies modified competition.

Southern Districts Soccer Football Association has 36 clubs under its umbrella ranging from Bringelly over to Yennora.

Football has always been a family sport and the association is also asking for more volunteers to help make it a family event.

“You cannot argue that football brings everyone together in one way or another,” Lentini said.

“Having parents involved in coaching, managing or even in the canteen or around clubs can only benefit everyone involved.

“I am a parent myself and my kids love me being involved.

“I think kids get happy seeing their family and friends involved in something they truly love.”
