IGA Club of the Month – West Ryde Rovers FC

IGA-Club-of-the-MonthJUNE

IGA and Football NSW are pleased to announce that our Club of the Month for June is West Ryde Rovers FC from the Gladesville Hornsby Association.

With 980 players in 2015, the Rovers are one of the larger clubs in the Gladesville Hornsby Association and have made some outstanding contributions to the wider community in 2015.

In an initiative led by Club Secretary Lindsay Donald, the Rovers and GHFA clubs raised $7,400 for Legacy Australia in the Centenary of Anzac year.

“Having family members involved at Gallipoli and having directly seen the work that Legacy Australia does, I felt that this was a worthy cause to support especially in 2015.

“We, as a club, initially donated $500 to the cause and called upon other clubs to match or better our donation.

“To raise over $7,000 in our first year was fantastic and we have some plans in place to hopefully grow this amount each year,” Donald said.

The Club is also supporting the McGrath Foundation’s Pull on Your Socks Day where 40 of the clubs teams will sport pink socks in support of the McGrath Foundation.

This was championed by the club’s Over 30 Women’s teams who have been directly impacted by breast cancer.

What grew from 3 teams quickly spread through the Club following the committee’s communication to its other teams. This has raised over $6,000, with the teams sporting their pink socks in early July.

West Ryde Rovers are also the second club in NSW to apply for Level 2 of the NCAS. This work has again been led by Lindsay Donald and he is hopeful that the club will be awarded Level 2 status.

“We don’t do things by halves here! We celebrate our 60th anniversary next year and we want to ensure that the Club is here for our children who currently play.

“We hope the Club is here for 100 or 150 years. It has taken numerous hours of work to get the application ready, and we feel that this accreditation will set the Club up for success into the future.”

In recognition of the efforts of the West Ryde Rovers club, IGA and Football NSW will be providing them club with $500 in IGA vouchers.
