Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 matches announced
The lowest ranked club in the Round of 32 the Westfield FFA Cup 2015, Football NSW’s State League 1 outfit Balmain Tigers, will host the current Hyundai A-League Premiers and Champions, Melbourne Victory, following the draw which was held earlier today at the Fox Sports studios in Sydney.
The State League 1 side coached by Joe Di Giulio face the arduous task of tackling the nation’s best team in Australia with Kevin Muscat wanting to kick off the new season with a positive result.
This will surely go down as a David v Goliath battle with Balmain playing in what’s equivalent to the fourth tier of football in Australia including the Hyundai A-League.
Paul Reid’s Rockdale City Suns outfit will clash with fellow Western Australian NPL side Perth SC to be played in Sydney. The Western Australian outfit will make the trek to Sydney with coach Taki Nicolaidis ready for the challenge ahead. The club has one familiar face at admin level being former Perth Glory coach Gary Marocchi while the club captain is a former English professional footballer for a host of clubs including Darlington, Rochedale, Lincoln City and Chester City to name a few, Clark Keltie, who is the current NPL WA Player of the Year.
Mark Rudan’s Sydney United 58 FC side drew Tasmanian NPL side South Hobart FC at home. This isn’t the first meeting of these two sides as they both clashed for the inaugural NPL Finals Series in 2013 where the Reds were crowned NPL Champions. South Hobart FC coach Ken Morton will no doubt have revenge on his mind as his troops prepare for what will be an epic battle in Sydney’s West against the former NSL giants. This will be the second successive year United 58 FC will be involved in the Westfield FFA Cup after they crashed out in what was an entertaining Round of 32 clash against Hyundai A-League side Sydney FC at Edensor Park.
Current PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 1 high flyers Blacktown City FC face NPL 2014 Champions MetroStars from South Australia. MetroStars coached by Michael Pirone, knocked out PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 1 side Bonnyrigg White Eagles out of the race for a spot in this year’s Cup after they defeated them 1-0 in the 2014 NPL Finals Series at Lambert Park. This will be Mark Crittenden’s second year in the Westfield FFA Cup as they were defeated by Victorian outfit Bentleigh Greens but hope they can go one better in 2015.
Sydney Olympic are the only NSW side drawn to play away in the Round of 32 and they face NPL Capital Football outfit Gungahlin United FC in Canberra. One familiar face in the Gungahlin United side is coach Claudio Canosa who was a former coach of PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 2 side Macarthur Rams. Former Sydney United 58 FC and Rockdale City Suns midfielder Daniel Barac will be the one to watch out for in Canosa’s squad as they hope to spring an upset against the former NSL giants who will be taking part in their second successive year in the Cup.
Former Socceroo Michael Beauchamp and Bentleigh Greens Head Coach John Anastadiadis conducted the draw which also saw Darwin Olympic SC host Adelaide United, Sorrento FC to face Sydney FC and Edgeworth FC take on Melbourne City FC.
In the all Hyundai A-League clashes, we will get a preview of the opening round of the competition when the Western Sydney Wanderers FC meet Brisbane Roar FC, the Central Coast Mariners take on the Wellington Phoenix and the Newcastle Jets will face Perth Glory.
The 16 matches in the Round of 32 of the Westfield FFA Cup 2015 will be split over three weeks (28 July – 12 Aug), with four games scheduled per match day on either Tuesday and/or Wednesday nights.
Fox Sports will broadcast one match live and exclusive in full on each match day in the Round of 32, Round of 16 and Quarter Finals with single camera coverage at all other matches with both Semi Finals and the Westfield FFA Cup Final broadcast live and exclusive in full.
While the Westfield FFA Cup 2015 Round of 32 draw has revealed who meets who in the Round of 32, the specific match details in regards to the dates, venues and kick-off times will be announced on Friday 3 July.
