Football is not all about winning and the Seaforth FC Sea Horses have proven just that.

The all girls under 7’s team from the Manly Warringah Football Association have been playing together for two years and have enjoyed every minute they’ve spent together.

Football as a sport knows how to bring everyone together and this story really typified this statement. Mother and devout manager of the Sea Horses Carolyn Squirrell saw this as a major factor for signing her daughter up.

“When my daughter started at school I wanted to create an opportunity for her and our family to meet some other families with daughters in her year.

“Knowing how sport brings families together and forms wonderful friendships it was just a matter of deciding which sport.

“Football is one of the few team sports offered to kids for this age, so it was an obvious choice.”

Over the past couple of seasons the brave Sea Horses have played, they are yet to register their first win. This hasn’t stopped them though, eager to attend every training session and game.

“Even though over 2 seasons we have never won a game, the girls get so excited about training and the games every week.

“As parents we love to see our girls getting out there for a run around, having fun with their friends, learning about commitment, listening to instructions and of course learning great ball skills.”

Football is about having fun as well as keeping fit in a safe and affordable environment and while doing so, the young Sea Horses have vastly increased their skill level which has delighted Squirrell.

“They have all improved so much and we are very proud of them.”

Again, Squirrell reiterated the importance of the bond that these girls have built with their peers over the years through playing the world game.

“These friendships will last throughout their school years and this girls are already talking about playing other sports together.”
