The four finals of the Combined High Schools State Knockout Competitions were held at Seymour Shaw Reserve on 19 August.

A large number of supporters attended the finals, particularly the last two games, almost filling the grandstand.

Fittingly, all four games were close and exciting.

Hunter Sports High Schools won the Boys KO Competition for Sports High Schools. They defeated Westfields Sports High School 1-0 in the final, the goal coming from a penalty in the first half. Westfields controlled much of the second half but were unable to score an equalizer.

The Girls KO Sports High School Competition was won by The Hills Sports High School, defeating Westfields 1-0 in their final.

It was The Hills’ third successive win in this competition.

Woolooware High School won the Girls State Trophy Final for Comprehensive High Schools. A very close final saw Woolooware and Wauchope High Schools locked at 1-1 after extra time. Wauchope took an early lead in the penalty shoot-out but Woolooware recovered to win the shoot-out 4-3.

The Boys State Cup Final was won by Maitland Grossmann High School. They defeated Crestwood High School 1-0 in a game in which Crestwood did most of the attacking and went close to scoring on a number of occasions. It was the excellent defence of Maitland Grossmann which was the platform of their victory.
