Ador Avenue and McCarthy Reserve will benefit from upgraded club facilities and the installation of synthetic playing fields with a $2 million funding commitment from a re-elected Turnbull Coalition Government, Liberal Member for Barton Mr Nickolas Varvaris announced.

The much needed funding was welcomed by the Board of Directors of the St George Football Association.

The St George Football Association is a not for profit organisation comprising all 24 grass roots football (soccer) clubs in the St George area of Sydney, with close to 10,000 registered participants.

Mr Varvaris said, “What the area greatly lacks is a synthetic field as there is not one in the St George area.”

“All these associations struggle to play games during the wet season and this new ground would give them the place to do so.”

“Seeing kids play an array of sports and enjoy themselves not only creates and promotes a healthier lifestyle for our children, but also builds a strong community spirit.”

The Association manages the area’s youth representative teams competing at NSW state level and fields teams in Football NSW’s youth Skilled Acquisition Program (SAP).

Craig Kiely, SGFA General Manager commented on the proposed upgrade of more facilities within the football mad area.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of SGFA I would like to thank Mr Varvaris for his generous pledge to the St George football community.

“St George has made a major contribution to Australian football.

“We represent such a large and diverse community and this funding will allow us to deliver on much needed improvements to our facilities to match the continued growth and popularity of the game in our district,” added Kiely.

Former Socceroo and SGFA Head of Football and Technical Director, Aytek Genc echoed Kiely’s thoughts.

“I am thrilled with today’s announcement and the benefits that this will bring to our work in developing our young local players.

“The SGFA continue to produce some the country’s finest football talent and improved facilities ensures that we can provide the best possible environment or our young boys and girls to perform”.

The commitment of $2 million will provide both McCarthy Reserve and Ador Avenue with the installation of a synthetic outdoor field, fencing around playing fields, new lighting, and the upgrade of existing buildings with new dressing rooms, storage facilities and canteens. Additionally, both playing fields will also benefit from the installation of 500 aluminium stadium seats.

The St George Football Association seeks to enhance the lives of people in our diverse community through the experience of Football.

The Association is currently responsible for 22 member clubs, housing over 760 teams, across 28 local facility locations.
