Football NSW has played a pivotal role in the development of future coaches as they’ve assisted, for the third successive year, in facilitating the Grassroots Football Certificate with the Master of Teaching (Primary) students at the Australian Catholic University.

Having conducted ten courses with well over 250 undergraduate Education and Masters students attending, it was a memorable year for all involved.

Football NSW Coach Education Manager Oscar Gonzalez was delighted with the unique partnership that was struck in 2016 with talks about continuing its partnership for 2017.

“It’s fantastic that Football NSW can support and encourage future teachers to be comfortable with offering a sound football experience for their students.

“We are locked in discussions with ACU to team up in 2017 so fingers crossed we can continue what has been a fruitful and healthy relationship in 2016.

“We are always looking at ways to improve the learning experience and this has been a great initiative shown and it’s great to know that it was well received by the teachers that took part in the course.”

Australian Catholic University Senior Lecturer for Health and Physical Education Dr Nicki Brake paid tribute to the program.

“This is the third year we have run this certification for our students and Football NSW’s coaching via Oscar Gonzalez has received excellent feedback.

“Several students thanked me for organising this workshop for them.

“Students commented that the session deepened their knowledge of football and has given them the confidence to try something they were unfamiliar with.

“This is so important for the health and wellbeing of primary school students.
“If the classroom teachers are comfortable and enthusiastic about implementing PDHPE Games and Sports activities like football, there can only be benefits to the students.

“Many thanks and we look forward to Football NSW’s next visit to ACU.”
