Football NSW in conjunction with the Western Sydney Wanderers, Gladesville Hornsby Football Association, Granville & Districts Soccer Football Association and Hills Football Association took part in a Play Football Activation day during the hugely anticipated Sydney Derby at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.

One of the key objectives in staging such an activation was to promote grassroots football within the various associations as registrations have opened with the season ready for kick off shortly.

Football NSW Game Development Officer Zac Ribeiro knew that activating such a project at one of the biggest footballing spectacles in Sydney was the way to go in engaging with the community.

“Saturday provided another fantastic collaborative approach between Hyundai A-League Club Western Sydney Wanderers, Football NSW and our Associations in engaging with the football community in further promoting the Play Football NSW campaign.

“Registrations continue to increase from 2016 as Association look at continued growth particularly in female and ALDI MiniRoos football – the opportunity to engage at the biggest footballing stage in the country was one well received.”

Football NSW was present with a shooting target creating a better game day experience for children at the ground leading up to the kick off as many as 45,000 patrons rolled into ANZ Stadium to witness the Western Sydney Wanderers defeat their staunch rivals Sydney FC 1-0 thanks to a solitary goal from Wollongong born striker Brendan Santalab.

Sticking to theme of Player Registration activation, Football NSW also hosted a photo booth at ANZ Stadium as part of the “See Where Football Can Take You” campaign.

Football Fans were able to get their photos taken with select Western Sydney Wanderers, Sydney FC or Central Coast Mariners players as over 400 people turned up in getting this done.
