Anthony Bouzanis clinches Man of the Match plaudits.

It’s not a normal sight at any Cup Final that a keeper grabs the accolades for being best on the pitch.

This award is usually dominated by the strikers or midfielders in our game today however at Lambert Park on Sunday 9th of July, Hakoah Sydney City East’s Anthony Bouzanis created a little bit of his own history.

The promising young custodian became one of the first ever to collect a Waratah Cup Final ‘Man of the Match’ award for his outstanding display underneath the sticks in their monumental victory over the highly fancied APIA Leichhardt Tigers 3-1.

The 21-year-old played a pivotal role in player manager Gavin Rae’s victory pulling off a number of key saves at huge moments of the match as well as marshalling his troops in what was a classic Cup tie.

With brother and Melbourne City custodian Dean watching on, no doubt his older brother would have been proud of Anthony’s efforts on the day.

Western Sydney Wanderers coach Tony Popovic was also an interested spectator in the crowd who may well have been impressed by young Bouzanis’ performance on what was a memorable day for the club’s number one and of course Hakoah Sydney City East.

Congrats Anthony!
