Georges River Council Administrator John Rayner said Council has now lodged the Development Application (DA) for Stages 2 and 3 of the Penshurst Park Sporting Hub.

Mr Rayner explained the works submitted in the DA are consistent with the previously approved Penshurst Park Master Plan and the previously endorsed Penshurst Park Plan of Management.

“Estimated costs for the works of Stages 2 and 3 are approximately $17 million and will be partially funded by a grant provided by the Federal Government and Section 94 developer contribution funds,” he said.

“As part of the DA, the proposed works will be undertaken over two separate stages and will include a synthetic soccer field and cricket pitches, a walking track, new exercise station, and public amenities which will be accessible for everyone.

“Also included is a 275 seat grandstand, medical rooms, storage facilities, a youth centre and the playground is to be relocated within the park. Additional parking spaces (327) will be provided on Percival Street as part of stormwater and kerb realignment works scheduled for later in the year, with a total of 38 spaces to be provided on the street,” he added.

“These works will lead to significantly improved sporting facilities at Penshurst Park and create a first class regional centre for local sport.”

Stage 3 will consist of an extension to the existing Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre facilities, Mr Rayner said.

“The expansion of the Aquatic Centre will consist of a new internal grandstand and two additional mixed-use courts to accommodate basketball and futsal.

“In addition to this, there will be a gymnastics area, café, outdoor deck and change room facilities,” he said.

“These major works will bring tangible community benefits and create a more diverse recreational space within the local area,” he added.
