It was a memorable day for everyone involved in ANZAC Day commemorations as Blacktown District Soccer Football Association did their bit to honour those heroic soldiers that made the ultimate sacrifice for the fight to keep our freedom.

The ‘Light Up The Park’ was a Blacktown District Soccer Football Association board initiative that saw each of the 24 clubs turn its ground lights on at 5:30am for the traditional 6am Dawn Service commencement amidst COVID-19 regulations, it was their way of paying its respects to our fallen soldiers.

It was also in conjunction with the RSL NSW’s ‘Light Up The Dawn on ANZAC Day’.

“There’s no doubt that ANZAC Day 2020 will be different to how we traditionally commemorate.

“While we cannot gather at services and marches, we can be together in spirit.

“By standing at the end of your driveway, in your living room, or on your balcony at 6am on ANZAC Day, we can be united in the ANZAC spirit to remember all those who served and sacrificed.” – This was the official message promoted on the RSL NSW website.

Joining in on the commemorations was Blacktown District Soccer Football Association Chairman Bill Owen who knows very well what ANZAC Day means to him.

He served in the Australian Army for ten and a half years after joining in 1983 and proudly protected this wonderful nation.

“The ‘Light Up The Park’ was a board initiative which saw all 24 clubs support what was a memorable day for all involved.

“Our parks and fields are our safe place and a place which is symbolic to the community we live in and we represent.

“The unity of our clubs to come together as a collegian to support each other and the wider community at this sombre time and show respect to the spirit of the Anzacs shows the true qualities off all our members.”
