This time our Football NSW paparazzi lenses find us in the Hills Football Association where we take a look at one of the largest and most recognizable fields in the ever growing area, Fred Caterson Reserve, a facility used by Castle Hill United FC.

Named after a famous local Liberal politician Frederick Douglas Claude “Fred” Caterson who held his seat from 1976 right through to 1990, the facility caters to a number of sports covering a total of 58 hectares. There are six picnic tables, two barbecues and a junior children’s playground. The reserve features five football fields, cricket practice nets, baseball field, ten tennis courts, a BMX track, remote control car track and a basketball stadium.

Castle Hill United FC is responsible for flying the football flag when it comes to our beloved sport at the majestic facility.

Known for being a proud local volunteer club that was established in 1972 to provide opportunities for the local community to play football, the club caters for all ages and levels of ability for both males and females. They also hold rank as one of the largest clubs in the Hills Football Association.

Formed in 1972 as the football division of Castle Hill Sport and Recreational Club, originally, the club played on fields at Castle Hill Showground, but when the council decided to build new Council Chambers on this site, they constructed replacement fields in Fred Caterson Recreational Reserve. Initially only three fields were built, but as the popularity of both the sport and the club continued to grow, a fourth field was constructed. This was followed in 2002 by the addition of a fifth field.

In 1992 the club constructed its own clubhouse in Fred Caterson Reserve, adjacent to Field 1. This not only provided better facilities for club players, visiting teams and spectators, but also allowed for State League games to be played locally for the first time. It also provides hall facilities for community use. The clubhouse was named “The Glenn Funnell Building”.
