North West Sydney Football CEO Mark Lockie has made it very clear that he and his team cannot wait to get the grassroots season back up and running for what will be a massive 2021 season for the Association.

“It was no question that 2020 was an unusual year to say the least but NWSF managed to put on close to a normal season despite the delayed start and player registrations were still quite strong.

“In 2021 we are looking forward to getting back to normal with the season commencing in April with our player numbers expected to bounce back to over the 16,000 mark.

“Playing for one of our local clubs will provide a great sporting and social experience so the message is quite clear, get involved and register today.”

One such element of the game that has really made a huge impression at North West Sydney Football Association has been the introduction of Walking Football, a concept Lockie believes will only further develop now that it’s been introduced in the winter season.

“This year we plan to further expand our Walking Football and Masters competition during the Winter season. Walking Football is taking off in Australia and we have been running it for a number of years over summer and this year we have decided to host it in winter on Friday nights at Christie Park.

“Walking Football is aimed at over 50’s participants but anyone can play.

“Masters Football is open to women over 40 and men over 45 and we are accepting entries from interested teams so now’s the time to get involved.”

Currently in his sixth year at the Association, Lockie was proud of how North West Sydney Football has progressed but is looking forward to seeing more referees and volunteers involved in 2021 and beyond.

“North West Sydney Football provides one of the best run competitions in Sydney providing opportunities for players from under 6 to over 45 in mixed and women’s competitions. The referee coverage provided by NWSFRA is also one of the best with 92% of matches covered by referees in 2020.

“In saying that, our referee’s association is always interested in recruiting more referees and are running courses for new referees on the 6th and 20th of February at Christie Park (more information is available here).  It’s a great way to be involved and you can still play as referees are scheduled around their own fixtures.

“A feature of our local clubs is the great work done by teams of volunteers. We do know however that our clubs always needs extra hands to assist so contact your local club for more information on how you can get involved in that space today.”
