Football to soar with FIFA Women’s World Cup Final to be played in Sydney

The growth of Football in NSW is expected to soar following confirmation that Stadium Australia in Sydney will host the final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

With female participation already growing at a significant rate, confirmation that both Stadium Australia and the Sydney Football Stadium will play host to the biggest Female football spectacle across the globe will undoubtedly attract increased further interest in the game.

The announcement follows an extensive eight-month review process involving each of the 12 candidate Host Cities and 13 stadiums.

“The Football NSW community welcomes FIFA’s announcement that Sydney has been selected as one of the cities that will host 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup matches. We are ecstatic that Stadium Australia will host the final,” said Football NSW CEO Stuart Hodge.

“Female football is the fastest growing area of our sport, and today’s announcement will undoubtedly turbo charge further growth and boost the popularity of the sport.”

“The legacy opportunities created by having the world’s best players play in Sydney is incredible. Today is a pivotal moment for female football in NSW.”

“Australian football has celebrated many great moments at Stadium Australia over the years and it is fitting that it will host another momentous occasion when the final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is played there.”

Football Australia Chairman, Chris Nikou, celebrated today’s host city announcement.

“The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ will be the biggest sporting event on Australian soil since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, showcasing Australia and New Zealand to a global audience of over one billion people.

“Today’s announcement of the Host Cities and match venues for the tournament is a major milestone in the build-up to the next FIFA Women’s World Cup™ – a tournament that will unite nations, inspire generations, and provide our diverse and multicultural game with the perfect platform to grow over the coming years.”

At a later date, FIFA will confirm details of other locations, such as team training bases.

More information on other tournament locations, as well as the provisional match schedule, will be announced at a later date.
