Sydney United 58 turn its attentions to the Australia Cup
Sydney United 58 are set to embark on its fifth Australia Cup campaign, the biggest of any NSW side, as they face Capital Football sole representatives and NPL outfit Monaro Panthers at the Sydney United Sports Centre on Wednesday 3rd of August.
It’s a match the club’s passionate captain Adrian Vlastelica will want to win at all costs following a poor NPL NSW Men’s season where the proud club missed out on playing finals football.
“For sure, we want to win this match and continue our Australia Cup journey for not just ourselves but for the club and fans,” Vlastelica stated to Football NSW.
“This is yet another huge opportunity for the club to be on the biggest stage since the old National Soccer League days and we want to take full advantage of this.
“This will also be another massive opportunity for some of our young boys to show their talents to the rest of the nation.”
United 58 competed in the then FFA Cup in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 with this year rounding up its fifth appearance in the prestige Australia-wide knockout competition.
The 27-year-old by no means is underestimating their opponents who are currently sitting in third position on the Capital Football NPL League ladder and know they’ll need to be at their very best in moving to the latter stages of the Australia Cup competition.
“Monaro Panthers will be a tough opponent and we know full well that they’ve been a highly competitive outfit in their NPL competition so they’re a strong side and we won’t be taking them lightly.
“We will be playing at our ground so we want as many of our fans as possible to cheer us on to the next round.”
Coached by Frank Cachia, the Panthers will have a few players who will do their best in unsettling the United 58 side with the likes of Nikos Kalfas, Darren Bailey, Andre Carle and former Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar star Kofi Danning the one’s to watch out for.
For Miro Vlastelica’s squad, the club will rely heavily on the shoulders of Chris Payne, Patrick Antelmi, Glen Trifiro, Yianni Perkatis, Yianni Fragogiannis and Adrian Vlastelica to carry them onto the next stages of the Cup.
It’s going to be a massive week for the club as they’ll also be playing for the year’s first piece of silverware when they clash with League One outfit NWS Spirit FC in the 2022 Waratah Cup Final next Sunday (7th August) afternoon.
